A staged bookkeeping support service that helps service-based solo owners set up QuickBooks, clean up messy books, and maintain a simple weekly finance routine.
Added Jul 8, 2026
Service-based solo business owners often know they need clean books but feel overwhelmed by QuickBooks, bank statements, payroll issues, receipts, and tax preparer questions. They do not always want full-service bookkeeping immediately, but they need someone to tell them exactly what to do, check their work, and translate financial questions into plain language. Avoiding the books creates stress and delays pricing, hiring, tax, and investment decisions.
Start with a paid QuickBooks setup or cleanup package, then move clients into a recurring Finance Friday support plan with monthly review videos, report walkthroughs, question support, and optional reconciliation help. As clients grow, offer a clear upgrade path from guided DIY bookkeeping to split-responsibility bookkeeping to full-service categorizing, reconciliation, receipt management, and reporting. The business is delivered as a productized bookkeeping service, not primarily software.
More solo service businesses are using QuickBooks but lack confidence using it correctly. The signals show demand for flexible bookkeeping support that changes with the business stage instead of forcing owners into either DIY confusion or full outsourcing.

Hey Bestie, I am thrilled to share that three of my clients had their highest revenue month in 2026 this past month, and for some of them, it was the highest revenue month in their business ever. And the really fun part about this is that they're in three completely different industries, all service-based. One is a business coach, one is a therapist, and one is an interior designer. And so they're totally different businesses, totally different services, they serve totally different clients, and they have very different offers. But when I looked at what they had in common, it wasn't anything fancy, but there were definitely some similarities when it came to their business finances and bookkeeping. So today I'm going to walk you through their stories, what they did the same, and why I believe it played a real part in their growth. So let's jump in. Hey Bestie, welcome to the Get Comfy with Numbers podcast. I'm Erica Millard, your bookkeeping bestie and founder of Bookkeeping with Erica. Whether you need to set up your books, clean them up, or take bookkeeping totally off your plate, I've got you. And if you're already feeling a little sweaty and nervous just hearing the word bookkeeping, you're in exactly the right place. This podcast is here to help female business owners like you go from confused and overwhelmed to clear and confident when it comes to your business finances. We'll keep it simple, ditch the jargon, and talk through things like how to stay on top of your bookkeeping in less time, what clean books actually means, how to fix common QuickBooks mistakes, and how to use your numbers to make smart, empowered decisions. So grab one of the three drinks on your desk currently, and let's get comfy with your numbers. So first, I want to talk about where they all started. All three of them came to me basically in the same spot, overwhelmed and confused by QuickBooks. Now, some were worse off than others. And actually, one told me what felt like a secret, which was that she had failed accounting in college, and she was really embarrassed by that. Another came to me, didn't even know how to get the bank statements and log into her bank account. And then one had actually a fairly decent accounting background, but she really didn't understand QuickBooks. And so all of them were feeling the same things of, I don't know if I'm doing this right.
And she is actually religious about her Finance Fridays, which I think is another piece that contributes to her success because she has a simple and easy bookkeeping routine. Her questions get answered and she's not stuck Googling at midnight or avoiding her books for months. When she has questions, she sends those to me and we work through them together. We had a few payroll issues at one point, and so we were able to work those out back and forth. And one thing that makes her very successful is she actually watches the review videos that we send. She looks at her reports every month and she asks really good questions. And so her numbers went from a source of feeling clunky and kind of annoying and frustrating to a tool that she actually uses to make decisions. And in fact, she as a business coach has sent even some of her clients to me who are in that initial period of feeling the same clunkiness and frustrations. And we've set them up in QuickBooks as well. So it's been a really great full circle moment of where she started, where she's been, and now she's sending more people to me as well. Next is the interior designer. She started almost like a side hustle helping people in their homes and really decided to make it a business. And she grew very quickly and she knew that bookkeeping was going to be difficult and a struggle for her with some of her past experiences. And so she came to me and we set up her QuickBooks and did some training on how to use it so that she wouldn't feel so overwhelmed before she even started. And then she actually kept doing her own bookkeeping for a few years. And then she grew to the point where she was also ready for that split partnership where we did some pieces and she did some pieces. And she got to that point because she was really starting to want to understand her numbers deeper as well so that she could make decisions. And she's actually told me that we have saved her lots of tears, her words, not mine. And she's making really wise decisions on her numbers now because she can actually see them and understand them. She has used our support to work with her tax person. There's been a handful of times where her tax preparer has asked questions and she's like, Erica, I don't know what this tax person is saying. Can you help translate?
And so we have been able to partner together to get the tax person the information that they need. And this removes so much stress because she's never stuck in the middle feeling dumb without anywhere to turn, trying to chat GPT, the tax questions or issues. But she has the support that she needs to make the updates or changes and then make wise decisions with her numbers. And so she has actually had a specific goal that she just met. And it's just been so exciting to get to walk with her and be part of the business successes with her. The third client who had her best revenue month ever is the therapist. She came to me in a little bit of a different place. She already had her QuickBooks set up, but she was really confused and really overwhelmed. And so she actually found this podcast and started listening and quickly booked a call where we walked through some of the issues. And she quickly realized that she didn't want to do the work herself. So we did a clean up and catch up for her and then she joined the membership where she had support and then that became too much. And so she categorized and we reconciled and reviewed and then her business just kept growing and she realized she didn't want to spend her time in the books on the bookkeeping anymore. And so she actually grew into a full service bookkeeping client with us. And so we handle categorizing, reconciling, receipt management, and review. And she talks about being grateful for the support all the time, which is so sweet, but she just is so thankful that she doesn't have to do it herself anymore. And in her words, she has so much more peace of mind knowing that we're taking care of it. And here's the cool part. Even with full service, it's still a partnership. She flags things and asks really good questions. She looks at her reports. She looks at the videos and leaves comments on them. She asks thoughtful questions. And we have a great back and forth relationship and partnership and communication of what's going on with her numbers. So full service bookkeeping does not mean that she's just checked out of her numbers and quote unquote left it to the expert, but she's actually more engaged than ever. She's just not doing the data entry that bookkeeping does require. So let's name the pattern here because I bet you've already heard repeats as I've been talking, but they all got support early.
They didn't wait for a crisis or a huge, scary tax letter to force their hand to getting support. They each built a simple bookkeeping routine. A couple of them literally do finance Fridays, but every week they sit down, knock out their bookkeeping tasks and move on with their lives. It's not complicated. It's not stressful. It's not hours and hours and hours spent on bookkeeping. It's just a routine like any other tasks in their business. They all adjusted support as they grew. So some stayed in the membership doing pieces themselves and some grew into full service bookkeeping. The support flexed as their business grew and changed. There isn't always one right level of support. The right level is the one that fits the season of business that you're in. And that's a lesson that we can take from their experiences. And most importantly to me, they all engage with their numbers. They open the reports. They watch the videos. They ask questions. And that is the most important part that I really want you to hear, because it's not even just hire a bookkeeper and forget about it. It's a partnership. We do some pieces. They do some pieces. And everybody has their part, knows their part, and actually completes it. So why do I believe this fueled their growth? Well, here's my take. When you're confused about your numbers, it takes up so much mental space. Even when you're avoiding it, it's sitting in the back of your mind, whispering at you, calling out shame and guilt and all kinds of feelings that I see, especially with women over and over. And all three of these ladies got their mental energy back. They don't dread it. They don't avoid it. No more. I'll just deal with that later and then feel a guilt spiral after that. They are freed up to focus on the actual work of serving their clients and marketing and growing the business. And they make better decisions now when you can see your numbers clearly and quickly and in a timely manner. You know what's working. You know what to charge, when to invest, when to hold off on things, when it's time to hire someone. The peace of mind piece is real. Confidence in your numbers spills over into confidence in your business as a whole. So I'm not saying bookkeeping alone caused their best month ever. They're talented business owners doing great work.
