The Problem
First-time Tokyo visitors struggle to choose a hotel because the city has no universally central location and popular destinations are widely dispersed. Comparing neighborhoods, railway lines, station walking distances, hotel availability, cancellation terms, and airport access creates decision overload. A poor choice can add substantial travel time throughout the trip.
Potential Solution
Offer a productized planning service that takes the traveler's dates, budget, party needs, and intended destinations, then returns a ranked shortlist of bookable hotels. Each recommendation would explain expected travel times, station access, neighborhood tradeoffs, airport arrival options, and cancellation conditions. The service can initially be fulfilled manually using mapping, transit, and booking platforms before selectively productizing the scoring workflow.
Why Now?
Travelers can access abundant booking inventory but still lack trustworthy, itinerary-specific location guidance, while general AI recommendations are perceived as unreliable. Current mapping and hotel-search tools make a manually delivered concierge report practical for a solo operator.

I like Ikejiri Ohashi. One train stop from Shibuya. I really like the hotel near the station called Residence Ohashi Kaikan. Private room, private bathroom, comfy bed, all for around $70 a night. ($100ish if you opt for the bigger room) Very cheap considering you’re walking distance to Shibuya. Love that neighborhood too they have a great burger place on the main road called [The Burger Nation](s.tabelog.com/.../13299464)

We spent two weeks in Japan. Tokyo ——> Osaka/kyoto ——-> Tokyo Our first leg in Tokyo we stayed in tsukiji near the famous fish market. It was a quiet area compared to the other spots we stayed in. I appreciated the calm surroundings but we came to realize there wasn’t much going on there. When we returned to Tokyo on our tail leg we stayed in ikebukuro. Much more around the hotel but not crazy crowded. Only problem we didn’t realize how much we would enjoy the shibuya / harajuku area. Like others have said. Look at the places you plan on visiting and stay close to those. We spent alotnof time getting from ikebukuro to Shibuya via walking/trains. Tsjukiji was somewhat closer (to ginza at least) When we go back we know what we like and will definatley plan our hotel stay accordingly For reference the hotel in tsukiji was the Waypoint And the return leg was the Mimaru in ikebukuro. Both very nice hotels

First and foremost, I think access to a good train station or stations is paramount. I’d never want to have Shibuya or Shinjuku as a home base as they’re too crowded and confusing. But I would generally suggest something on the Yamanote Line. My preference would be anything within reasonable walking distance to Shimbashi or Yurakucho stations. Some mentioned Ginza, which is generally walkable to Yurakucho.

There’s no perfect ‘place’ in terms of where to stay in Tokyo for a tourist. As long as the hotel is 5min walk away from train/ metro stations you’ll be fine.
